Adult Basic Education

Develop Your Basic Skills While Learning about the Healthcare Industry

If the next step for you includes getting your GED or becoming proficient in English Language skills, you don’t have to wait to finish these credentials to start planning your entry in the healthcare industry.

Many Adult Basic Education providers in Western Massachusetts understand the importance of the healthcare industry and are designing their curriculum to include information to help adult learners transition to college and careers.

Resources at ABE programs that you should look for include:

  • General healthcare career awareness sessions
  • Hands-on exploration of healthcare careers
  • Guest speakers
  • Individualized career planning support

Transition to College Programs

If you have your GED and/or your English Language Skills and your next step is a certificate or degree program, you may choose to enter the Transition to College and Career programs available through the community colleges.

These free programs offer an opportunity to brush up on all the basic skills necessary to succeed in college. The  programs enable students to enter college ready to take credit-bearing classes and skip developmental coursework.

If you find yourself on a community college campus and need to take developmental education, check our local schools for coursework with a healthcare focus. New programs are being designed to link to career training programs.
