This session is designed for high school guidance counselors, career facilitators, healthcare program deans and faculty members, recruitment managers, and representatives from the areas healthcare organizations. It provides high school guidance counselors with information and resources to help students who are enrolling health science programs.

“To Err is Human”
Faculty and staff development program focused on increasing patient safety though improving interprofessional collaboration, communication and education. The interprofessional viewing of the documentary, “To Err is Human” followed by a whole group and round table discussions.

Bi- Annual PUBLIC HEALTH NURSING: Clinical Conference
The Massachusetts Association of Public Health Nurses – Western MA Chapter, designed the conference and partnered with the Western Massachusetts Nursing Collaborative (WMNC) to expose nursing students to viable opportunities in community nursing. Participants are informed on the role and responsibilities of public health nurses and their involvement in promoting and maintaining healthy populations in the community through their association with state agencies, schools and healthcare centers. Additionally, the chapter members facilitate a patient surveillance and disease control simulation, providing participants with a first-hand experience on managing a disease outbreak in the community; and provide nursing students with five hours of clinical experience.
Middle School HEALTHCARE CAREERS Awareness Days 2019
In Spring 2019, eight organizations joined the Healthcare Workforce Partnership of Western Massachusetts for its HEALTHCARE CAREERS Awareness Days program. Bay Path University, Baystate Medical Center, College of Our Lady of the Elms, Greenfield Community College, Holyoke Community College, Springfield Technical Community College, Shriners’ Hospital for Children-Springfield, Western New England University, and University of Massachusetts, Amherst – School of Nursing provided a career emersion experience to students who will decide between attending a college preparatory or a vocational high school in the upcoming school year.
The organizations’ partnership in this very important program, allowed 128 students from Chicopee, Springfield and Westfield to observe and learn from healthcare practitioners in the practice setting. It provided them with first-hand, real life exposure to healthcare professions, as well as informed and equipped them for future education and career planning decisions. This collaboration amongst employers, education, workforce development and community-based organizations is one step closer to preparing students with the information and experiences to promote STEM infused education and careers in healthcare.
Healthcare Career Educational Advancement Information Sessions
The Partnership hosted Healthcare Career Educational Information Sessions at employer sites in Hampden, Hampshire, Franklin Counties. Admissions counselors from ten academic institutions provided incumbent workers with healthcare program offerings and enrollment information, along with other supports to help incumbent workers advance their education and careers in healthcare.
Imbedding Interprofessional Collaboration into Academia and Practice
This event highlights best practices in interprofessional collaboration across western Massachusetts. It allows professionals from multiple disciplines to discuss interprofessional competencies and ways to best foster and support interprofessional practice in the workforce. View the photo gallery.
